Eve Aerobraking and atmospheric entry

Hi guys

For those who are interested on how to aerobrake and enter Eve atmosphere, here is my design to save DV on launching a plane to join my 2 Kerbals waiting in Evalander

Using now KSP 1.1.3

Retrograde mod to brake 50° before target, aiming a -150kms Peri

It's done

Now ASS on prograde for Entry

Here is the optimum design, ejectable deployable shield ahead, big tank  with speed brakes on back and small spare tank with a lot of Vernors for RCS at center, near the CG (when big tank nearly empty), so that they will be very helpful if we need them

The shield begins to heat under 80kms, mach near maximum

546287screenshot8.png

62 Kms, mach decreasing, temperature rising

375598screenshot10.png

44 kms, Mach under 7 and temperature decreasing. A flip would be no issue now

486097screenshot11.png

36 kms, still on prograde

650909screenshot12.png

25 kms, we begin to get out of prograde, but flip, mach and T° are no more a factor

Ejection of rear tank

529620screenshot15.png

ASS on OFF, spare tank ejected, CG ahead of CL the plane stabilize nose down

639724screenshot16.png

Playing with pitch I nose up and eject the shield

Now a real plane

Engine started we fly with FWB on atmospheric autopilot. (very good mod)

heading north to join the lakes that are east of our objective on the Scansat map

Take a look at Atmospheric autopilot.  As you cannot guess, great help to pilot without autopilot!!!

Going down fast to admire the lake

low altitude flight, fine controls, (blue indicators)

Now we are going to turn left to head west towards our objective

Beginning turn

594087screenshot53.png

with atmospheric AP, the altitude is very stable in manual...

150799screenshot54.png

gaining altitude to fly over land

951476screenshot55.png

9km from objective, 14 m from ground, 360 kts, no error is allowed!!

340226screenshot70.png

250m from objective, we can see Evalander and Jedediah, we pass under 50m

899349screenshot73.png

Nearer

817545screenshot75.png

Speed 300 kms, we see clearly the lander

437848screenshot76.png

after a 180 turn, new pass, then we will land

406508screenshot77.png

outbound, increasing altitude for the final turn

185676screenshot79.png

90° bank turn

Final 1 km

Nearly on ground

Speedbrake out

approaching Jedediah and the lander

Here we are
