IVA prop placing utility?

How do mod makers place the props in their IVAs?

So far I can only think of modifying the cfg files so that their position/rotation coordinates match the place I want. This is obviously tougher than having an utility to see where they're being placed. 

Is there such a thing? Something like "edit mode" in Mount and blade.

yes, its done in Unity. Otherwise you have to do it blindly by manually editing the CFG.

 

you can spawn an existing IVA internal from your KSP directory and then place props, export as a new internal CFG.

Hmmm... Wonder how difficult it would be for someone to make a plugin for this, similar to what NodeHelper does for attachment nodes... ???
