Any SCS Truck Sim players? (ETS 2, ATS etc)

I got into Euro Truck Simulator 2 after watching Nerdcubed's Road Trip video and thinking "man, that actually looks like a fun traffic simulator." One of my favourite things to do in open-world games is just drive around, and here's a game filled with nothing but doing that. Now, to be fair, you generally have a cargo of some type which dictates a) where you're going and b) how heavy you are while doing so AND you're juggling the finances of running a small (or large) transport company, but that part (as Nerdcubed says multiple times in the video is actually fun!

Anyways, I've gotten quite far in ETS2, and recently gotten American Truck Simulator, their new game. The scenery in ATS is astounding compared the europe. Maybe it's the variety of terrain; Euro truck is mainly farm, mountain and trees. That's it, for the most part, excepting parts of Scandinavia where you get neat things like roundabouts inside a mountain.

Here's my precious Kenworth, "The Troll" from ATS:

And "The Beast", my first truck in Euro Truck Simulator:

So any other players of this series? Why do you play it?

I played ETS2 a bit a few years ago.  For what it offers in terms of gameplay, it punches quite a bit above its weight.  My only real complaint was it didn't (and still does not) include Ireland - there's something to be said for being able to stomp around your own home turf.  (There were mods available, but the community were told Ireland was on the way and the mod makers dropped the mod.)

Its quite a relaxing game, haven't played it in a while, but I did pick up the expansions during the sale because I could see myself picking it up again at some point.

I feel the same way about ATS and how they ought to include Canada, especially the Lake Ontario vicinity. :)

My main problem with Euro Truck Simulator 2 is that the roads do not feel like a believable world. It very much feels like a model world, which massively breaks immersion for me. How the vehicles respond is similarly unconvincing. I would really love to have a Assetto Corsa quality driving simulator, coupled with the open world idea of ETS. Just hop in a virtual car and drive for hours.

I would do it in real life, but unfortunately, gas is prohibitively expensive.

I find that ATS improves that significantly. Cities feel like cities and roads have variety. There's bumps, cambers, hills and all sorts of different, cinematic terrain.

I don't play. Yet. You have temped me to play with those graphics.

There's a demo of ATS. You get to do three deliveries in the full game world and if you buy the game later you get to keep any progress made during the demo period. :)

Yay!! It works with Mac!

Oh, and can you play with only a keyboard?

Yup! It's certainly playable with a keyboard alone. Though I recommend a gamepad with analog sticks for finer control - I use an Xbox 360 controller.

ah, that makes sense. Okay. I'll check this out. I love simulators, especially ones with amazing graphics like this one. :)

I put about 100 hrs in the game using my trusty Volvo. I bought the Going east, Scandinavia and high power cargo DLC during this year's summer sale. Good game

I got those last summer sale... ATS this year. :) The high-power pack is pretty cool, I drove flew towed a helicopter from Stockholm to Paris once.
