KSP 1.1.3 Access Violation Crash

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: v1.1.3 build64 ID=012892016.06.21 Windows 7 64-bit updated from 1.1.2 (Steam Install)

What Happens: KSP crashes on start.

All Stock

Steps to Replicate:

1) Start with a v1.1.3 Install. (You also need a separate copy of 1.1.

2) Remove all files in the KSP folder except CSteamworks.bundle.

3) Copy the v1.1.2 data into the KSP folder. (DO NOT copy CSteamworks.bundle from the 1.1.2 Data!)

4) Let Steam update KSP.

5) Hit play, 64-bit.

Results: Game crash, after it loads all the parts and game files and before main menu.

Fixes/Workarounds: None.

Notes/Pictures/Logs:

I have attempted launching twice. The first time froze the computer, requiring a shutdown. The second time just crashed the game.

output_log.txt from C:\ Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\KSP_x64_Data

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\2016-07-01_110100

C:\Steam\steamapps\common\Kerbal Space Program\2016-07-01_100236

System Information

Also, the hard drives are starting to fail. This may be causing problems, but I don't see how.

So, you've done a rather odd down-and-update process resulting in a mixture of versions and you're surprised you're having problems?

Your log is full of these:

TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'LayerUtil' from assembly 'Assembly-CSharp'.

Rethrow as TypeInitializationException: An exception was thrown by the type initializer for Part
  at PhysicsGlobals.Start () [0x00000] in <filename unknown>:0

...so it isn't really surprising that the game is crashing.  While updating 1.1.2 to 1.1.3 should work correctly, you will probably be best off just making a totally clean install of 1.1.3...
