I tried to load my old career file but i had problems.

I'm considering start new game with additional tech points, i wonder does you like start game with tech-points for start-up and if so how much, to not spoil the game too much?

I recommend starting with 500-1500 and see how it works for you.

I also recommend starting with 50% rep (500 points) and max out the funds.

These setting are good to get past the initial grind and jump into more fun stuff.

I think it really depends on what part of the game you find fun.  If you like LKO and Kerbin SOI missions, you can start pretty low: 288 science will unlock through the 45-science tier. That will let you build Mun-capable rockets (watch your battery power) and basic planes, rescue Kerbals in orbit, and place low-tech satellites. And it nets you one new science experiment (thermometer).  However, if you're itching to get to Jool, you'll want a lot more.

So figure out what type of missions you want to start on, and give yourself enough to unlock to that point.

If I'm starting a career with very low science income, I tend to give myself enough to buy the first tier or two, since it can be really hard to get off the pad and out to where the science farming is good. Having fins, reaction wheels, and a probe core with SAS opens up the solar system and lets you go pretty much anywhere for your researches.

For a normal game, those first missions are easy to just blitz through anyway :)

Don't forget to add plenty of reputation: your available contracts depend on reputation.  Crank that up (and leave money and science low) and you can quickly progress to the Mun and beyond (well, be paid for it.  You can go there without the reputation).  Without the reputation, you will be  putting up an endless string of satellites.

If you are interested in the "leadership initiative" (massive bonus to milestones and science, practically removes contracts*), that requires you to have a huge reputation before allowing you to buy it.

Its a neater solution to rolling around ksc in a command pod to get starting science.

LOL...I've done that when I first started playing..spent a lot of time figuring out ways to tack two command pods on opposite ends of a fuel tank to create a giant rolling pin...

I'd recommend not giving yourself anything extra but instead using your knowledge of the game to see how much faster you can get back to where you were.

I've tried the whole "skipping ahead" thing and not only does it feel cheaty (to me atleast.) you are depriving yourself of re-exploring the early game with your new found experience.

Some of the most fun I've had in KSP are the first Mun mission's of a new save, even if it's the dozenth time I've done it. You can always do it better, or just plain differently for the fun of it!

It is an admin strategy that reduces funds, science, and rep from running contracts. It increases funds, science, rep from completing mostly the auto world first milestones.

To take full advantage you need to upgrade the admin building.

I prefer to use it mid to late game. Combined with patents licensing after the tech tree gets unlocked, you can earn quite a bit of funds bio-hopping new locations.

I did that once. The old save got corrupted, or sth so I just started a new one, gave myself some science, unlocked the tree to the more or less the same level I had in the previous save and never touched it again because I realized career is not fun at all.
