Use vector engines and cheat like hell.

"Space shuttle" designs are and have always been about the hardest way to space.  Are you confident with both rockets and aeroplanes?  If so, work on a few spaceplanes and re-usable rocket SSTOs.  Then, once you're good at those, hurt your brain on shuttles if they still seem like a good idea.

Shuttles take a lot of skill, a lot of time and a lot of rage endurance. First you got to build the orbiter. Make sure you get its aerodynamics right. Test how it reacts to re-entry by hyperediting it into orbit. Then once you get the orbiter finished, add the external tank. Make sure it is 3.75 or is a bunch of 2.5m parts clipped into one another. SRBs do not help at all. It is a lot easier to fly if you build it with LFO boosters.
