Steam is starting the game in 32-bit mode

Recommended Posts

When I press "play" in steam or use the desktop icon to start the game, it starts the 32-bit version. If I go into steam, I have a menu option to "launch ksp (64-bit)", and that works. Does anyone know how to fix the steam options so it runs the 64-bit version by default?

You can create a desktop shortcut from the 64-bit exe, you just need to go to the game installation directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Kerbal Space Program) then right click on KSP_64 and select “send to” and then “desktop”, rename it if you want and start from this shortcut, it will always run on 64 bits mode, but this won’t count you play time on steam.

Also, you can add this executable to you library on steam like all non-steam games, on steam click on “add game” and then on “add non-steam game”, then “search”, navigate to the same folder as before and select KSP_64 and “add selected”, but still won’t count in you play time on steam (at least, not in the Kerbal Space Programa one)

I do not know how to make a desktop steam icon default for 64 bit. I just go to steam and launch from there.

But if your game is being slow here are some fixes below.

Try doing a hard reinstall. Delete all gamedata, & delete local content. Reinstall. If that doesn't solve it, try using startup parameters they can help reduce ram by optimizing textures and converting them. A certain mod may be the reasoning behind your game being slow. The mod could be outdated, or it could be that you need to update your module manager. And if you haven't tried CKAN for mod use, I recommend doing so.

Works like a charm for me.  I was wondering why KSP was running so horribly on my 64-bit system...  Now my memory usage dropped by nearly 400 MB (though this may also be due to Razer Cortex's boost function working better with the 64 bit exe) and the game runs smoother than it has for years on my system...
