I demand photos! Photos of the poles!

Recommended Posts

The objective of this challenge is:

  • [li]Get a screenshot of the North and South poles of Kerbin, and include the WHOLE pole.[/li]
[li]Get a screenshot of the North and South poles of the Mun, and include the WHOLE pole.[/li]
[li]Get a screenshot of the North and South poles of Minmus, and include the WHOLE pole.[/li]

Mods are allowed, with the exception of infinite fuel tanks, etc.

Oh, and one other thing:

This must be completed in one trip, and the command pod must make it back to Kerbin to deliver the photographs.

Good luck!

Seems to me its sort of hard to police mods, unless you give a specific list. Then again, it doesnt matter because its just for the feeling of success anyways!

GL all! On the mission myself currently :)

Phew, that was close, I slightly underestimated the amount of fuel I\'d need for this, I had to limp back on RCS and aerobrake three times to get back home, but still, as requested

Kerbin North Pole (Fuel running low here, not enough to incline myself directly over the poles, still, good enough to get some high quality polar pictures)

Darn, you beat me too it. I think my mission was cooler though :D. How far were you from minimus when you took the polar pictures?

HMCSS Freedom flew by the Mun in a polar orbit, landed in the grand canyon near minimus\' north pole, and then returned to kerbin and landed at its north pole, within 3 degrees of lattitude. Didn\'t quite realize until after I touched down just how tight I was on fuel (<5kg of fuel remaining).

Was a fun flight, and I managed it in one try :)

Some of the early pictures got jumbled somehow. When I flew the mission, I did not fly by the north pole before going to the Mun.. that picture belongs later. I did a TMI and then flew by the mun at 6km, and then upped it to 100km, and then did a Trans-minimal injection. The pictures seem correct past that point.

There are quite a few pictures in that album, but I started with over 600 from the flight, so I thought I brought it down pretty well.

My craft was completely stock, the only mod I had running is the FPS pod mod; that was to give me my real altitude. I find landing in darkness or on hills a real pain without it.

Good job, but the aim was to get the entire pole in a single picture. Feel free to try again!

Nicely done. I was at 250km and had just worked out how light I was starting to get on fuel, I decided that Minmus\' pictures would have to be very high altitude pics. Good job I did, too.

Also, I used Mechjeb and the NovaPunch pack.

It irritates me that you seem not to have looked through the entire albumn. There are both high and low altitude pictures for each of the bodies. The high altitude regions encompass the entire \'pole region\' (which isnt even well defined for minimus and the mun anyways because there is no glacier...) while being close enough in not to frame the planet. The much more interesting low altitude pictures show surface detail.
