Space Dock??

You'll want Extraplanetary Lanchpads:

The launchpads in the base mod aren't that visually interesting, but there are several good mods out there with nice looking ones, including some that would look roughly like your image.

You could also use Simple Construction, a more lightweight mod. It does the same thing but with less parts. You can use the docking port as a spawn and just build your base around it. However you will need to transfer resources between the KSC and your station to be able to build ships. Also the ships will still be designed in the hangar.

Actually, it is the same thing with less parts: It's a rebundling of the EL libraries with the parts removed and some configs added to give stock parts their functions.

(I'll admit it kinda bugs me that it presents itself as a different/new mod.  But EL isn't my mod, so it's not my call to say anything about it.)

I know it's the same, that's what I meant. I didn't know it represented itself as a different mod.

Maybe it's just my take on it, but nothing in it's name or the main download links mention that's it's basically EL with different parts.  From a cursory inspection it'd look like it's a direct competitor to EL, when really it's an alternate parts pack.  I'm not even sure it's all that much lighter a mod - Simple Construction uses/requires InterstellarFuelSwitch, which EL doesn't, so there's an extra DLL vs. having a few very simple new parts with EL.

But again - that bugs me, and I'm just some random KSP player.  The complaint is personal feeling, and I have no real stake in it either way.  I don't know why anyone should listen to me on the issue.

Well I respect your opinion. ( Those are some real rare words right there:wink:)

On another topic, @valis, why did you post the same picture with the same quote twice?

Because it is basically another mod. A parts pack would likely require EL. In fact he redistributes the EL. Dll in a different place so you will run into issues if you install both as you will have duplicate dll's

That's circular reasoning: You're saying it needs to include EL because it conflicts with EL because it includes EL.  If it was distributed as a set of config files without EL it would work as an add-on.  You could even include instructions on how to remove the EL parts.  Now, I see why it's done the way it is (less work for the end-user), but it bugs me on how it's presented.

But this has gone way to far off-topic, especially for something I tried to make an insignificant footnote.   If someone wants to continue to argue with me on it, send me a PM and I'll be glad to continue the argument - but I don't think it's important enough to be taking over this thread, or any other for that matter.  My opinion on the issue isn't really germane in any context.

It's not circular reasoning. I never said it required EL. I was saying it is a separate mod vs just a parts pack specifically because it includes the EL dll.

I was also pointing out that the way matterbeam distributes the DLL it actually conflicts with EL.

Not an argument just a clarification.
