Rescue - Taking Control (PS4)

My question is rather simple, but I can't figure out the button combination.  For a rescue mission, I am within 2km of the stranded ship, but I don't know how to make the stranded kerbal get out of their ship.  Watching a scott manley episode, he says how to do it with a keyboard, I need to know how to do it for a ps4.

How do you switch control?

People have reported getting close to the target, switching to the tracking station and "flying" the craft from there works for them.  I have also read about hopping on the taget ship's ladder if it has one will allow you switch.

I get really close to the derelict craft and click on the hatch. Then I just EVA them to the rescue craft.

There is a bug on the XBOX where even when you are close to the ship, you can't change to that vessel in flight mode. When this happens to me, I have two alternatives:

• Jump to the tracking station and select the stranded ship
• Since I have the "Claw" part, all my rescue missions have that part. So I dock with the spaceship and do a crew transfer.
