Hotel California

Recommended Posts

This might be more suitable for a newbie question,.

I have my simple space station in orbit, It is just a Mk1-2 Command Pod attached to a Mk3 Passenger Module and a Mk3 Cargo Bay CRG-25. I transferred my science office, Bill Kerman, and engineer officer, Bob Kerman, to the passenger module. But they can't look out the windows. Can you only look out the windows of a command module?

My idea was to set up a tourist attraction (in reality, I am just trying to learn docking). Bill and Bob are suppose to be the chef and bartender of the 'Hotel California'.

Maybe I should have added a PPD-12 Cupola Module for my guests to look out of? But I was not sure how to added that. It did not want to attach to the side of the Mk3 Passenger Module.

Another question, would it be possible to put tiny 'space jet skies' in my cargo bay for my guests to use? The tourist enters the cargo bay, transfers to a 'Space Ski', flies around a bit, and re-entries the cargo before transferring back to the passenger module.

Final questions. If you were to create a menu for the Hotel California, what dishes would you include on the menu? What is the perfect house specialty drink for Bob to server from the bar?

This program has diffidently a excited my imagination. :-)

Press C to enter/leave IVA, press V to cycle through each passenger.  Don't know about that passenger module specifically but all the ones I've tried recently work.

Yes, you can add small ships on and with docking ports then fly in and out.  If they're using command seats instead of pods you'll have to EVA the Kerbals and fly them near the seats with backpack RCS. (Right-click the seat and 'board' once you're close enough).  Really tiny one-man vehicles with a command seat can be very handy - even making return Mun landings from Mun orbit.

The hotel does not need meals, only an infinite supply of snacks.  The only drink required is the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster.

Unfortunately tourists won't be able to use them since they can't EVA. Should be fine for the crew though.

I think a spaceport and refuel station wold give more opportunities to dock,  even more if you want to learn rendezvous & dock.  Just add a big tank  with docking ports to the station and you are good to go.  You may launch it empty and dump excess fuel from returning vessels before deorbiting or send a bit of extra fuel in each launch until you fill the tanks.

Add a hub module then add a cupola pointed to the desired view.  Any part with docking ports around it may do but habitation modules with hatches as nodes seems less immersion braking.  Then add the cupola pointed to the view you want to show.

Tourists can't control the ship nor EVA,  you need autonomous vehicles or a pilot and also make sure you can transfer the turist among ships (don't use Clamp-O Tron Jr)

Dishes?

Something made of skid with Kraken in the name would be amusing.  That said IRL freefall will affect what one can eat,  at least until acclimated, and your menu may take that in consideration.  At least anything you serve will be real astronaut food,  e. g.  real astronaut potatoes

Romulan ale ought to be available.  But perhaps No Tea as well.

On a long Hohmann transfer, solar wind in my hair
warm smell of spaceship, lingering in the air

Up ahead in the distance, I saw a purple light
My delta-v was getting low, I had to land tonight

There she stood in the doorway;
I heard the mission bell
And I was thinking to myself,
"This could be Heaven or this could be Hell*"
Then she lit up a candle and she showed me the way
There were voices down the corridor,
I thought I heard them say...

Welcome to the Eve Atmosphere...

Oh crap! Tourist are a real thing in career mode, aren't they? I am only maybe 50 hours in to this and still playing sandbox,,,

It's a kind of contract,  tourist  is add to your host and you need to bring it along to the required situation(E. G. Suborbital orbit) and back to kerbin  to fulfill the contract.  There is at least one Tourism contract pack that expand it a bit (personally I never tried it, if interested you need to look at it by yourself)

In stock tourists are as real as a temporary max ship crew penalty can be.  As usual you need some imagination to have fun at the sandbox. At least they can be a dirt simple way to get funds.

I don't know about main course dishes, but the menu HAS to include some kind of tasty refreshing minty dessert option.  (Wait until you play Science or Career mode, and get to Minmus.  Until then, trust me on this.)
