[Request] Advanced Heat Shield

Tried many times to do it with wings, robotics, welding and some .cfg editing. It kind of works, but just looks terrible and the wing clipping tends to produce eye cancer effects.

I don't know if this may actually work as a mod, but my lack of knowledge of models and how to animate them is the reason for asking.. so: Would someone be interested in creating a more advanced heat shield that can retract the innermost 1/10, allowing the engines to fire?

Im obviously talking about the "Pegasus" from BBC's "Voyage to the Stars":

Doesn't have to be a Replica at all, im just looking for that functionality.

@elpollodiablo,you might check LH_Icarus from Lionhead Aerospace Inc..Maybe it would need some *.cfg tweaks,but in basics work in KSP 1.1.3

This is perfect! It needs some tweaks indeed, at least with FAR it's also a very heavy parachute and it has no ablators, but otherwise, just what the doctor ordered. Amazing i never found this mod, thank you very much.

Is there a simple way to edit the size of the central hole?

Unfortunately not,you can only resize whole model.
