0g EVA Jetpack Control -PC unmodded

Recommended Posts

I had a break from KSP for the best part of a year and so I'm still learning the differences between that and the current version.

I'm sure I remember that it was possible to change the orientation of a Kerbal using a jetpack whilst in space.  Now, it seems the little fellow will always snap back to its original orientation when you hit any thrust key.

Is there a way to get him to face the way the camera is pointing, or otherwise change the direction she/he wants to face?  If you are helmet first, trying to grab onto a ladder seems pretty impossible.

Also, is there a way to make fine adjustments to your capsules orientation during re-entry?

Cheers for any tips & advice

Left click + drag your mouse. But the dumb thing will reorient itself in the most inconvenient way as soon as you try to move. You can disable aoutoorientation of kerbals to camera in options, but that one also sucks.

this is a major headache to me, and i really wish they would work on a better system.

While on EVA hitting space will orient him in the direction of the camera.. Sort of.    if camera is on free he will stick on one pitch and will orient in the direction of the camera.  So if you look at him from below, he wont be able to switch to that new pitch and be facing up from where he was looking.   But if you switch the camera to orbital, he will be able to,  but wont be able to get to the pitch you had in free mode.

edit:  and for fine adjustments for re-entry,  Caps lock is for fine tuning.

This is the single most frustrating thing about this game. And ironic too, that as brilliant a job KSP does at simulating space travel, that there is still some notion of "up" when it comes to EVA.

Thank you for the answers.

One follow up question, can you change the camera mode (orbital, free, etc) whilst your Kerbal is floating in space?  I've not had a problem switching the camera, but when I tried it today the camera wouldn't switch when I tried it outside the capsule. Admittedly it was only a quick session due to RL butting in, so it might have been operator error on my part!

On the old forum you could change the status of a question from unanswered to answered - has that disappeared on the new forum?

And thanks for the caps lock tip.  Reentering has become less stressful as a result :-)

you should be able to change while on eva with the standard V key,   It works for me, Im playing on RSS right now, but i dont think any of my mods would effect something like that.
