Un-group things something like that

Recommended Posts

Hello

You know when you add parts in multiple amounts they become a single group, for example when you add 6 solid engines and change one of them's thrust limit, all of them will be at same thrust limit, so I want to set different thrust limits for each engine but i couldnt when i change just one's it affects to all 5 other engines, I know how to un group parts in stage that is not my question dont  confuse and thank you from all answers ( if they come :) )

If I understand correctly, your issue is that (for example) all the engines placed in four-way symetry mode have, and must have, the same thrust settings. There is no way around that. But it is possible to place the engines in two-way symetry mode, and create multiple pairs of those. Each pair can have the thrust tweaked independently.

I hope this answers your question,

What you are referring to is called 'symmetry' in the game. And yes, I agree: it would be nice if the game gave us the option to configure one part individually without affecting the rest of the symmetry group. Or at least break up the symmetry so once placed as one wishes, the configuration can be done individually.

Ideally I would want 'symmetry groups' (handles the placement of parts) and 'configuration groups' (handles the tweakables of parts) to be two different, independently configurable things.

This should probably be moved to the suggestions forum btw, because unfortunately the stock game does not give us these options.

As the other posters have said:  you can't, at least not at build time.

Some options:

  1. You could place them and not use symmetry groups.  Just build one thing, and attach it, and then copy it by ALT+clicking it, and place copies.  That way they're not part of a symmetry group and you can tweak each one separately.  Of course, getting the placement just right can be tricky, but if you use the grid-snap feature of the "move" tool (the 2 key, by default), you can use that to tidy up the placement.
  2. Depending on which property you're wanting to adjust, you may be able to do it in flight, even if you can't do it in the editor.  That won't work for the specific case of "solid engines" (SRBs) that you mention, since the game allows tweaking SRB stats only in the editor.  But there are other things which are forced-symmetric in the editor but not in flight.  So, depending on which property it is you're tweaking, you may be able to launch it, then adjust things on the launch pad before you take off.
  3. Or maybe there's a good way to accomplish what you're trying to do without tweaking individual properties inside a symmetry group... can't speak to that, since you haven't mentioned what you're actually trying to accomplish.

Based on what little you've mentioned about your use case, my guess is that michal.don's suggestion is probably the most useful one:

Can you explain a bit more about what you're trying to do, maybe post a screenshot of your rocket?
