KSP 1.2 First Mission!

I got 1.2 today! Technically, this isn't my first mission in it (which was a submarine that hit the water at 300m/s, never mind that now), but my first space one. So here it is!

The ship is on the launchpad.

Liftoff!

Orbital burn...

…is successful!

Jeb has left the cockpit to see space, but also to

get into his reentry chair.

The ship passes over the KSC. Jeb can't see it, he's looking at SPAAACE!

The ship is tiny compared to even the smallest islands of Kerbin; this picture can't do it justice.

The deorbit burn has been made. The ship is falling.

It's going to hit the atmosphere soon.

It's just on the edge of the atmosphere. Time to

get rid of the main engines and fuel.

Jeb's in a chair attached to a flaming metal bell forty-five kilometres above the middle of nowhere. He's elated.

We're using the little engine to decelerate enough to not get incinerated.

I don't know if he's as happy with the engine running and slowing us down.

So we got rid of it. There it is on the right, tumbling away, half full of fuel that we didn't want to use.

Now we're talking! Freefall! At this speed, we won't survive the 'landing'…

…so let's turn on Bug Mode.

Bug Mode is slowing us down, not enough for the ship to survive,

but it's well enough for Jeb.

Here's our landing point (it says Apoapsis there because Jeb jumped in Map Mode and it stuck).

Jeb's safely back on Kerbin!
