Not responding in VAB

Hi,

I just installed Kerbal Space Program 1.2 and I have been experiencing issues with craft building in the VAB. It would not freeze in previous versions but after installing this update the game freezes after placing a few parts. The screen would tear and the UI flickers before freezing. Thanks in advance!

Hi @milkywave1, you do not need -force-opengl with Windows, and this is likely the source of your trouble.

After removing the -force-opengl, it still freezes and causes the computer to hang temporarily, showing "display driver stopped responding and has recovered" after it has recovered. Is this a problem with my drivers or is it a problem with the game?

HandleD3DDeviceLost usually occurs when the game was tabbed out while loading, when the screen was put to sleep or when the system has returned from hibernation.

Are any of these occurring @milkywave1?

I tabbed out after the game froze while in the VAB, the driver crashes happened before tabbing out. Thanks for the quick reply.

Hmm this should be working, if you don't mind @milkywave1 can you use dxdiag to make a hardware report, you can run it from the start menu search box by typing dxdiag.

Also, what other software are you running? A screenshot of the task manager processes may help, some software conflicts with KSP such as EVGA's PrecisionX 32.

And it makes me wonder if your PC is okay, your gpu driver is a little old as well, the latest one is here.

Hamachi can cause loading issues, which shouldn't matter in the VAB but it's worth disabling it just in case.

The screen tearing is a bit of a concern, that suggests it's a graphics card or driver issue, there is not a lot to go on unfortunately.

If I were you I'd try monitoring the gpu and cpu temperatures, make sure the PC is not overheating when this issue occurs.

I just updated to the latest driver 375.57 and the freezing is still an issue. The CPU temperatures were around 80C and the GPU temperatures were around 75C when the freezing happened.

Are you noticing any issues in any other programs?

Also, according to this site your CPU is rated to handle a maximum of 105°, it may be worth checking for airflow and dust build-up as the reported temperature may be lower at the sensor than the core of the CPU.
