Option for "Classic" Part Sorting

Recommended Posts

As I've seen in 1.2, Squad decided to (again) mess with how parts are sorted by now adding some of the advanced functions sorting them. I likely am I minority but this transition is going to be rather annoying considering that I'm not a big fan of this excessive sorting. I liked having everything under 8 tabs, since it's faster for me to move a scroll wheel than to constantly moving to the side, clicking, and then moving back to what I'm doing.

Again, I know I am likely in a minority and a lot of people will likely enjoy this addition, but if Squad could toss a bone by adding a "classic" sorting style, that would be amazing.

I completely understand where you are coming from, and i agree that it would be a good idea.  That said, im one of those that just uses custom categories to the fullest since the actual number of parts i use habitually isnt all that much.  I have to say i only use about 1/4 of the parts often, most of the time even less then that since i tend to build combat vessels and i keep the categories limited to capital ships, starfighters, launchers, and land vehicles (and each of those has a very minimalistic subset of what you can use effectively).

Still, if it isnt too much effort, i dont see why not allowing one to choose the new or the old sorting style, even to this day i click on utility when i want a RTG or a wheel and arent using my own custom categories for whatever reason :(...

Or, they could do nothing and in a few months you will wonder how you ever put up with it the way it was before.

I understand you are going to keep looking for things in the wrong places for a while, but if you just use it you will get accustomed to it without even realizing it.

I can see both of the sides on this. I personally was fine with the original sorting and was able to get stuff done quite efficiently with it. I was a little annoyed by the change in the categories, but considering the rate at which I've been learning them, I feel like by the time the option for classic sorting was added, I'd have no reason to go back to it, since I've already learned the new method nearly as well as I had the old one down. However, it sounds like a simple thing to add, and therefore I see no objection for having the option. :)

I adjusted to how they shifted it from the top to the side but this is a quality of life thing considering how much additional effort it takes compared to the original style.

@ZooNamedGames You will adjust to this one too.  It takes less effort to find what you are looking for after all.  Instead of searching forever to find a part in the aero and utilities section, now you can find it rather quickly.

That's the issue, I didn't have to "sort". My muscle memory is to find it amongst many, not a specific batch. This is a change from 3 years of change, not like the change from where the toolbar was.

Not to mention, for me, I prefer hunting through one page. Again, takes more to move to click, then scroll, as opposed to, scroll.

As "convenient" as this is, there is most time wasted as opposed to the old version.

Your muscle memory can be retrained.  Like I said you will grow accustomed to it after a while and all will be fine.  By the time they added an option to choose to hide categories (which isn't a likely thing to happen btw) you will already be at a point where you no longer want it.

I need a break from the game as is. So I can wait for an update.

Eh. IMO the current categories are way way better than what they used to be. I don't have to switch between tabs back and forth because I'm looking for that one part that interests me and hasn't got it's own defined category. Everything is finally sorted by its function which is great and I don't get so annoyed when looking for anything anymore.

Ofc I'm the only person who doesn't want to have everything in its own box but rather all in one.

Ugh.

What's with this whole "I'm the minority" self-victimization approach? You can have everything in one box. Just type anything into the search bar, then delete it and you'll have your all-in-one tab, or make a custom category and put everything in there. There are plenty of options.

I am a minority, is that incorrect?

You are a minority. So am I. I want to have a sane science system which the game doesn't offer, but I am not able to change that. Are you not able to do what I suggested?
