Have a question regarding getting data from the observational surveys. A: How to take a crew report and I do I find the zone that the mission is to send me to.

Hey @lschechter. The crew report is an experiment, but instead of a science part you do it on the command pod; you do it by right-clicking the command pod, and clicking the "Crew Report" button from it's context menu.

The zone that the mission sends you should be visible in Tracking Station / Orbit view, as a marker à la Google Maps.

when you accept the contract it should display the area in the map view on Kerbin. From there you can click the waypoint and "activate navigation", this should display the waypoint on your nav ball. Once you get inside the area, on screen text will display saying "you have entered area XXXXX" perform crew report and your all done! make sure you are within the altitude parameters of the contract!

Even better, contract waypoints and orbits appear on the map (on the Tracking Station, not in Orbit view during flight) as soon as the contract is offered to you, so you can see if they're worth it before accepting them.

I don't know about orbits, but you can tell waypoints you haven't accepted yet by their orange text on mouse hover (waypoints for accepted contracts have green text).
