"Storyline" progression

Is there any way to access/alter the "storyline" missions? I mean the Kerbin World-Firsts Record-Keeping Society contract series. There are some rather questionable sequences in there. For example, they have you fly by Mun, orbit Mun, Land on Mun, then perform a rendezvous in Munar orbit and then perform a flyby of Minmus. It's a bit sideways to the capabilities of the science tree unlocked by that point. Is that stuff accessible in a cfg file somewhere or could it maybe be adjusted with Contract Configurator?

Closest you get is the anomaly surveyor missions mod.

It's doable with Contract Configurator, if you write your own contracts and disable the stock ones. I actually started writing something like this, but left it on hold.

Do we really need to prove we can perform docking/ rendezvous around every body? Surely the skills are transferable

The "storyline" really has a just-phoned-it-in feel. I appreciate the difficulty, sandbox+storyline, but still at least a little internal logic would be nice.

I think, yes.

In the debug/F12 menu... I'm not exactly sure how it works, but you can "mess" with contracts etc there. You could also try one of the tech tree mods like Unmanned Before Manned among others

Sooooo... The career, just like the tree, is all over the place. You can try my mod compilation, if you want. There's no need for accepting any missions. You do something for the first time and, assuming you don't screw up massively, keep doing whatever you want omitting the contracts (occasionally accepting only some of them if there's a need/will).
