Capsule stuck in orbit

Recommended Posts

Hello, I've started playing ksp about a week ago, so i'm fairly new to the game. While atempting to get into orbit , Jebediah got stuck in it with no fuel and all my experiments. I tried to eva and push against the craft but that doesnt seem to work. So im asking is there a way I could intercept my capsule with my low tech ... Realy enjoy the game and would love to get that science back and get some extra cash..

Try a rendezvous. It may be hard to get at first, but with a lot of reverting it can be pretty simple at an early stage of gameplay. Just send up an unkerballed capsule (If you have probe cores), get Jeb out, grab the science, and EVA over to the next capsule. Good luck!

Welcome to KSP! :)

There are several ways to cheat just slightly and fix your problem. "Getting out and pushing" multiple times is one of them, because you get free EVA fuel every time (provided you save enough to get yourself back aboard each time). It does eventually work, but it takes a long time -- since a rocket has a lot of mass, and those RCS jetpacks don't pack that scale of a punch. You have to actually let go of the ladder before you can turn on your RCS jetpack -- I suspect that's why it didn't work for you. While pushing, you will bounce off the rocket repeatedly, and maybe start spinning. FYI, to stop a spin, hit the > key once to do a 5x timewarp, and then immediately hit / or < which will cancel the timewarp. You can also temporarily turn on "infinite fuel" just long enough to nudge your orbit down into the upper part of the atmosphere -- and then maybe swear that you will never do it again  . If you want more info on small "cheats", then say so in your post.

Beyond that -- as Kosmonaut said, the only non-cheaty way to rescue a Kerbal stranded in orbit is to rendezvous with another ship that has a little fuel left. EVA, take the experiments out of the command pod, fly over to the rescue ship, and deorbit in that. There are many excellent tutorials on how to rendezvous -- it is an absolutely necessary skill to learn early in your KSP career. If you want a link to a tutorial, just say so.

While getting out and pushing works (be sure to push retrograde!), I would advise the rendezvous as your best bet.  Its a great goal to have, one needs to learn orbital rendezvous at some point, and you'll have a great feeling once you rescue him and have him safely back on terra firma.  I know one of my earliest flubs saw Jeb stranded in Munar orbit.  He ran out of electricity.  It was a blast unlocking some new parts and meeting up with him.  I can still remember bringing a spotlight on the 2nd craft so as to light him up on his EVA between ships.

I did let go of the ladder and pushed a lot. But after i barely got back to the pod i realy dont want to do that anymore. I guess I'm gonna try the randezvous untill i get it right. Thanks a lot for the advices..

I do have probe cores and thats what i will do, but im not really sure how do you mean ''grab the science" because i have the "lab thing" with the capsule. Thanks for the advice...

You mean the little science container? On EVA you fly up close to it, right click on it, and there is a button that says "Take Data". This unloads all the science data in the container to your Kerbonaut. When your Kerbonaut flies over to the rescue ship, he takes all the experiments with him that way.

Wow! Very impressive at your skill level. Sounds like you're going to have excellent EVA skillz, once you are practiced at it. Yeah, it takes a very large amount of pushing to move a rocket. You also have to make sure you are pushing retrograde.

Yeah Im getting a hang of the evas, but there was a lot of panicking while trying to catch up with the capsule.

Happens to everybody the first five times.

(And occasionally after that, when you try something new and wacky and it doesn't quite work right.)
