Rendezvous help?

Im having trouble when I get close to the target craft, maneuvering towards it when it's say 7 km away how do I get closer without overshooting the target.(console edition)

Moved to Gameplay Questions, but what I do is go back to the map and see if I can get a closer rendezvous using the manoeuvre nodes, I like to get within 1km if I can.

Assuming you're on nearly the same orbit but behind or ahead of the target it's fairly easy to get closer, by either lowering your orbit slightly by burning a little retrograde, allowing you to catch up, or by raising your orbit slightly by burning prograde, so you slow down a little as you move further away from the planet.

Um, overshooting is inevitable in a frictionless system. You burn toward the target (plus a little above or below), and then you always have to flip around and burn retrograde to scrub the velocity from your first burn.
