My Attempt At Recovering and Re Flying a First Stage

Hello,

A few months ago I saw a video of somebody recovering and re flying a first stage in ksp. So I decided to try do it as well.

Now that I have a forum account I decided to redo the mission but take pictures along the way.

How do you stop one of the stages from being "destroyed" by leaving draw distance?

in a recent version of ksp the draw distance was updated to 22km so that gives the 2nd stage enough time to reach space

The 1st stage costs 20,801 funds when dry.

However due to the way I connected the 1st and second stage there is an extra disposable interstage that gets added on the second launch which costs 680 funds.

So that means I saved 20,121 funds.

Good job! It may look a lot of hassle for little gain (in the future, I can kind of guarantee you will switch to single staging to LKO, since the dV is not too much and the whole thing is much more convenient), but this is one of those things everybody should try at least once. So much fun engineering it!

 

Rune. Now the tricky question... what is the cost in √/kg?
