Conic Patch Draw modes and limits

Recommended Posts

So, I kinda stopped playing KSP after 1.0.5. I've continued lurking the forum and occasionally posting, so I'm aware of most of the developments and changes since that version, but I haven't really played the game to experience them firsthand. I've recently started playing again with version 1.2.2 and I've come across something that I'm not keen about with the "new" conic patch draw modes (and limits). Maybe someone can shed some light and/or educate me on the subject?

For example, in 1.0.5, lets say I have a craft in orbit around Kerbin. I set the Mun as my target and it gives me ascending and decending nodes along my current trajectory. Now, I execute a burn to put me on an intercept with the Mun. I would still have a node somewhere along my intercept trajectory. I often found this node incredibly useful since it showed me where I needed to do a burn to match planes with the Mun equator before I even got to the Mun, and doing that burn along my intercept trajectory is far cheaper than waiting until I'm already in orbit around the Mun to match planes with the equator.

In 1.2.2, I get the nodes when I set the Mun as my target, but when I do that intercept burn, as soon as it projects the intercept, the nodes disappear and only show up on the "future trajectory" that is projected after intercepting with the Mun. It no longer gives me a node along my current path to the Mun. I suspect this is due to the conic patch draw modes (and possibly the limits), but I'm not sure. I've tried changing the mode to all the other options and I'm not getting what I'm hoping for. Is there a setting or combination of settings to return the conic patch draw modes back to how they used to be?

I think this changed with 1.1 when they redid all the orbit line code.

Put an empty maneuver in your future Mun orbit. The AN/DN seems to go back to Kerbin orbit.

Careful, that shows the AN/DN nodes for the future orbit, after leaving and returning to Kerbin's SoI. It does not put the nodes back on your current orbit path.

It does. Without the empty maneuver AN/DN shows on purple orbit. With the empty one, they go back to the initial blue one. Unless you mean they calculate the AN/DN on the second orbit and then plot the nodes on the first orbit, then I don't know...
