How to perform an instant orbit in 0.16.0?

First, you need a craft that\'s in the orbit you want so you can copy it\'s orbital data from the persistence file. Then you move the craft you want put in orbit to the launchpad/runway. Then edit the persistence file and paste the orbital data from the orbiting craft over the craft on the pad. Make sure you delete the craft that was already in orbit or they will overlap and fireworks will ensue.

That\'s a bit oversimplified, but it\'s the basic gist of it.

Cheers!

This info might help once you find your persistence files, what you need to do is as Skunky says, copy the necessary info from a craft in orbit over the info of a craft on the launchpad, the info looks like this:

sit = ORBITING

landed = False

landedAt =

splashed = False

met = 472.019989449531

lct = 2639.38759725509

root = 0

lat = -0.507374369830859

lon = -17.3072205817282

alt = 71561.2178265481

hgt = -1

nrm = -0.2388199,0.9698268,-0.04899989

rot = -0.6169683,-0.7316802,-0.08153299,0.2781126

CoM = -9.09116E-05,-0.8524621,-0.0008176701

stg = 2

prst = False

eva = False

ORBIT

{

SMA = 671469.888261285

ECC = 0.000135366752188051

INC = 0.542677698914535

LPE = 74.5454987065238

LAN = 235.325631017338

MNA = 3.04870364512695

EPH = 3111.40758670462

REF = 1

OBJ = 0

}

It is possible to have both ships in orbit if you first change the landed crafts lat(itude) or lon(gditude), you can make the changes while KSP is running, but only when you are not in the flight scene or the tracking station, as when you go to either of those areas the persistence file data is loaded.

One important thing to know is the Stage number of the craft on the launchpad has to be unchanged, so if you overwrite it with a different number, you have to change it back by hand.

Try using Notepad C++, as notepad apparently changes some values so I\'ve heard. Hopefully you have a backup of that file, or you can just revert it to an earlier version to re-obtain your lost data.
