test vessel

Recommended Posts

hi,

I'm trying since weeks to build a manned ship to go eve and return.

I've unsuccessfully tried several configurations but it's starting to become boring to reach the eve surface everytime to test if the new ship can or not lift off from that inferno.

So I'm wondering if there's a way, a mod , i dont know, to start launching the last stage vessel only, from the surface of a planet.

I mean only for test it before the real launch from kerbin.

is there a way?

It wouldn't get you all the way to the surface, but the stock cheat commands (accessible by pressing alt+F12 or mod+F12) would let you set your orbit around eve straight from the launchpad. You'd still need your descent stage, but it's an option if you don't want to use mods.

Hyperedit was the go to mod for a long time, but I find that reentry and landing on eve is as important to test as the ascent stage, so stock cheats work fine for this purpose.

I used to use hyperedit a lot... I was HE'ing to a point just above sea level to test a sea level ascent stage (since landing at sea level or 2 km, or in water, or at 7km makes a huge difference, I wanted to always test a sea level ascent), and testing the chutes+ short retroburn + ascent...

you can see leftovers from an earlier test nearby,  that precision is because of hyperedit - but that was in a version where the re-entry heating wasn't so bad and I didn't feel the need to test it on every design... back when you could use the FAT-455 airplane wings for SSTOs and get them down without overheating... good luck getting parts with only 1200 heat tolerance down from orbit now (without using a lot of fuel for a retroburn)
