[Theory] Has anyone read The Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy?

I have, and I think Kerbin is that once-uninhibited planet that the leaders of another planet sent all the idiots to (galgafrinchian was one of the planets I think) then the idiots made leaves their currency, leading to a horrible economy. becuse of this they burnt all of their forests down. I think KSP is set a long time after that, and the inhabitants have turned green because they can only eat grass. the kerbals renamed the planet kerbin and have only just realised that they had been tricked into going to their planet, and are building a space program to get their revenge. and you know how in the book Arthur finds the face of the guy who helped make the fjords carved into the ice? maybe they are the monoliths. Oh god, maybe Kerbin is actually Krikkit!!!

So what do you think? tell me if you think it is based on galgafrinchian, Krikkit or neither. or just tell me how to makke a poll.

Actually, when I first started playing I immediately thought of them as a peaceful version of the Krikkit. In my mind, Kerbals were just a happy go lucky race of pretty intelligent, if clumsy, beings. Then one day someone joked about how it would be impossible to get to the mun and pretty much overnight the KSP started, which much banging and explosions.

I would just like to jump in here to say that I am offended by the title of this thread, as it clearly implies that there may be large numbers of people out there who have not read The Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy...and the mere thought of such a tragic state of affairs makes me despair almost to the point of volunteering to listen to Vogon poetry.

I am seriously surprised at how many people have heard of it at all. My first computer (HAHAHA) was a Commodore 64 and I was a HUGE fan of Infocom's text adventure games. I was 7 years old when The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy was released by Infocom in 1984. I played it thoroughly and beat it many times with my best friend and it wasn't until 1995 when I came across a copy of the Original Hitchhiker Radio Scripts that I had any idea it had been a radio show. I enjoyed reading the scripts so much that I even bought the black leatherbound 'The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide.' Just an amazingly great piece of sci-fi comedy.

The babel fish dispenser is still one of my favorite puzzles in all of interactive fiction.

Infocom games rocked. I mostly played them on the Apple II...though I go back far enough that I first played Zork on an Osborne 1 running CP/M...and before that, played the Colossal Cave Adventure on a university mainframe (you had to wait until 5:30 pm to have access; they didn't want such a resource-hogging and silly application as a text adventure game getting in the way of Important Business). They had one of the best anti-piracy schemes ever: those silly things in the box that not only helped provide key hints here and there, but were such fun (and eventually, collectible) that you happily paid for the boxed game even if your best friend was already willing to loan you his copy. Still got my Joo Janta Peril Sensitive Sunglasses, for instance.

You should re-read it, seriously, it's that good :) It's quite clear that the planet the Golgafrincham's "B" Ark crashed onto was prehistoric earth.

I know that it is pre-historic earth, and have read it several times. It could very well be based on it still, just bent to suit the devs. I believe that it is very similar to either galgafrinchian or Krikkit, if not based on it.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
