From Kerbin to Minmus to Mun then back home to Kerbin

Recommended Posts

I created multi-lander rocket intended to go to Minmus, Mun and back to Kerbin.

I've named it:

Fingolfin I

I'm quite happy with this build. It's quite sturdy and does not shake around during lift off.

Here are the different stages:

Touch down on Minmus! Notice the ladder I added the middle to allow the Kerbinauts to do some exploring

I originally thought I would need the second lander to get to Mun but I still had plenty of fuel left so I didn't initiate the next stage. I just went straight to Mun.

Time for a group photo!

I hope no one left the door locked.

The Kerbinauts made it home safe and sound. Still had two full fuel tanks along with the last lander+fuel tank, so I guess this is ready for the new planet(s) on the next version.

Let me know what you all think.

Cheers!

Great ship Jeebs, and with an even awesome-er name. Well done!

I've found that with about 4 to 5 FL-T500s worth of fuel, you're pretty much good for whatever successive/recursive Kerbin system jaunts you might want to do. I really like the level of fuel reserve and redundancy you have going with this ship, and especially without having gone completely overboard on the lifter and insertion stages. I would say it's an extra-planetary contender as-is.

I seem to be having trouble flying your design, whenever I start my gravity turn everything seems fine, but then the ship won't go past 10degrees. As a result I end up with a lot less fuel and can barely get proper circularization with the final stage. I then tested it in mechjeb to see if it was my error and I saw the same issue. Any ideas?

check if ADV.sas or sas is on if not it seems the space kraken is grabbing on to you ship keeping it from turning. (i have this problem with my minmus rocket too. it happens because the ship is too big to be turned by the command pod alone try adding rcs or vectoring engines )
