I saw an article for this over on PC Gamer, and as soon as I downloaded the demo I was just blown away. One of the (many) gripes I had with Spore is that, for something based on the idea of evolution, it seemed to skip over huge chunks of technological development. It went from "you've conquered the planet" to "here's your interstellar craft, make it how you like". A few Kerbals scattered over a rather large amouint of geography later, I realised that KSP is more "you can build it, so long as it works - if it doesn't, you'll find out rather quickly". And to be honest, the level of forethought and planning needed in building even a ship capable of orbit is something I find impressive.

After getting the game, I've had a few successes, if by successes you can count one Kerbal floating around the sun on his own orbit (possibly while playing Space Oddity in the background), one stranded on the moon after I postioned the lander legs too high up to protect the engine and three possibly off to colonise a new star system, or at least one can only hope. I'm starting to get the basics of orbital mechanics, and I can't wait to see how this develops.

PS, can anyone recommend any mods? I've already found MechJeb useful, if a pain to learn.

Hi Nykrus, welcome to the community Glad to hear you are loving the game, a mod I can't live without is the cart mod by Tosh, I'll grab the link and update this post in a minute for you.

Here is the cart mod, it's invaluable for exploring the Mun, Kerbin and Minmus

Welcome to the forums, I use NovaPunch for a lot of new parts but its not updated for .16 yet , though Tiberion says it should be soon.

I think you might find the crewtank (I think it's called crewtank) mod interesting... also great for mun missions. Unfortunately, the link I had is broken
