Mechjeb explosion

Hi,

Today i tried to get a Molniya-like orbit... successfully. Then i wanted to raise my periapsis from 100 km to >120 km (for faster warping), when my ship suddenly exploded. The Mission-Protocol said, that mechjeb died because it overheated.

Is it possible to disable this (bad) feature? What is the reason for the explosion? Could the reason be pressing the "Prograde"-Button in Smart ASS?

This is a common problem for me in high orbits or Kerbol orbit, when using the small spherical pod. It will simply explode when engaging a SmartASS function. My craft are typically extremely lightweight "probe" type designs, so I use the lightest pod, but it often explodes due to "excess heat" when initiating a SmartASS maneuver. I tried adding a bunch of radiators even though there was nothing to overheat the pod, but it still explodes on occasion.

When it does explode it is always immediately upon clicking a SmartASS action, and there is never any time to build up heat from firing the engine.

I just gave up on using the small pod.

Is there a possibilty to edit the part.cfg to prevent this behavior?

This happened to me LONG ago when I was trying to rendezvous. I was half an orbit away from a picture perfect rendezvous when the pod blew up. I no longer try to rendezvous.

I've never experienced this but maybe turning up the heat parameter (maxTemp = 3400) to something a lot higher

I;ve had the same experience as CrashnBurn, however in my case it occurred several times when i used the time compression. The somewhat heavier Mechjeb pod didn't have the same problem.

I've seen this too, mainly with the ball like pod. I had it on a small satellite and as soon as I detached it from the last large stage it exploded.

I ever only used the slap-on-version with the red and green lights - I never had any problems.

Like you, i have a preference for automated craft/probes. My solution was to copy the ringshaped Mechjebs to a different directory. I renamed the parts to MyMechJeb-1 and -2. I then modified the part.cfg. I altered the name and i changed the module to 'module = MuMechJebPod'.

The ringshaoed MechJeb then function just like the real mechjebpods. However you loose the animation of the part.

As the creator said: "Those parts were never ment to be used like that".

I also had the same problem when trying to resupply my station using a stack-able mechjeb. When i was about 400-700 metres away it just exploded. tThe owner really needs to fix this.

Same thing happens to me once in a while. I'm using attachable red/green light module (cuz I really hate that default glow animation that other modules have). Quicksaving my game frequently helps, but I wish there was a fix.

That happened to me once. Thankfully, it was an unmanned rocket.
