GPU usage in Space Centre and VAB

Why does GPU utilization jump to 100% in Space Centre and VAB when it's barely 25% in tracking station and ~75% in flight? I'm not experiencing any problems because of this, but wanted to know whether it's a bug or expected behaviour.

Check your FPS, is it running at something crazy like 200 in the VAB?

I just checked some things.

  1. No, it runs at ~60 fps.
  2. If I turn on V sync, GPU usage comes down to 75 - 85%. But it still goes above 90% in mission control and to 100% in RnD.
  3. Also, interestingly, with V sync on gpu usage in tracking station ~50%. With V sync off it's about 15 - 45%.

Is it strange or what?

What kind of FPS do you get in flight?

I did some testing myself, and with the framerate unlocked I was getting like 150fps in the editor, and that was like 80% GPU usage. When I locked the frames down to 60, it dropped to like 25%ish.

V-sync limits the frame rate to some portion of your monitors refresh rate. It's effect can vary heavily depending on what kind of FPS you are getting as well as your actual refresh rate. (For instance if you were getting 45fps, and turned V-sync on with a 60hz monitor, your FPS would drop to 30, but if you were getting 70 it would go to 60.)
