Too many vessels = Lag?

Recommended Posts

I like to build complex satellite constellations around planets and moons, right now my vessel count is around 80, but this number can increase a lot. My save games are around 5 mb at the moment. Seems that the game are a little more lagged than before, but is hard to tell. I don't leave any debris in orbit.

I learned the hard way to make stations. bases and ships with low part count, to avoid turning the game into a slide-show. Now, before it's too late. I'm thinking if this also applies to the total vessel count in a save game.

Too many vessels running in the background usually cause lag? If so, how much can start impacting performance in your opinion?

Thanks!

It never has in my experience. That's both playing on a potato as well as a high end PC. Those craft aren't actually loaded in, or being calculated in any meaningful way unless you are controlling them, or near them; so I can't see how they would affect anything besides perhaps loading the game initially.

Having lot's of saves and saved craft designs can make the menus take longer to appear though.

If you do a lot of modding, a fresh install can clear up a lot of issues that build up over time, just back up your save and your mods and stuff first.

kerbalfreak,

I haven't noticed a lot of vessels impacting performance so long as they stay out of physics range. I have noticed, however, that leaving floodlights on can greatly impact performance.

Best,
