Why does my game hang when attempting to restart the first mission?

Recommended Posts

Did anyone test this?  Seriously.  I had to <ALT> + F4 to exit the program.
That's crazy.  And it's repeatable.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. Open KSP 1.4.1
  2. Select "Start Game"
  3. Select "Play Missions"
  4. Select "Dawn of the Space Age" on the left
  5. Click 'Start' on the bottom right
  6. Assemble Rocket
  7. Click "Launch"
  8. Click "Start Mission"
  9. Launch rocket
  10. While rocket is in the air, press 'Esc'
  11. Click "Space Center"
  12. Click "Leave Anyway"
  13. Click on K-7 Rocket from the launch pad
  14. Click "Recover"
  15. Click on the Pause Menu in the upper right corner
  16. Click "Restart Mission"
  17. Click on "OK"

Expected Result:

Game should return to Mission Screen or inside VAB to build a new rocket.

Observed Result:

Screen goes dark apart from the "Loading" animation in the lower right corner.  Game hangs this way eternally.

Writing bug up properly since no one in QA caught this--or it was glossed over by the devs. This is a 'A' bug, people.

Three out of four attempts to start "Dawn of Space Age" mission instantly crashed the game, with no crash reports or error messages.

The game also crashed when attempting to restart this mission when it did load. A crash report prompt showed up but then also failed with "class could not be created" or something like that
