What's the deal with the cargo bay drag values?

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to squeeze every m/s out of my stock turboprops. When I built a commuter variant of my cargo plane I noticed it went a lot faster.

Take a look at the screenshots, it says it all. Also, stuff is no longer occluded in 1.3.1 and 1.4.x? Major bummer.

As you can see, not only the cargo bay has drag values beyond comprehension, the fuel tank in front of it as well. Serious bug, this is.

Possibly your MK3 adapter is connected to the contents of the cargo bay, rather than the cargo bay itself?

Yes, and it also says a lot of other stuff that makes it take longer to see your point.  Nice rainbows, though.

I see that the A.Cd values around 6m² are unusually high; I see 0.5m² on a similar fuselage that I built just now.

Your MK3 adapter also has a high A.Cd, so maybe KSP does not think the adapter is connected cargo bay, in KSP's simplistic way of figuring which surfaces are exposed for purposes of figuring drag.

Stuff inside cargo bays is still shielded from drag, so don't be bummed about that.  Hopefully, you can re-check connections and everything will get better.

I've rebuilt the plane. The cargo bay used to be the root part, I've changed it to the front fuel tank and re-attached the rest. This worked. Thanks for the help!
