change multiple parachute setting at the same time while flying

Recommended Posts

how can i change radially attached parts at the same time while flying?

I usually set up my own SSTO parachute setting optimal for splash land. but some time it heads to high land and crash. I can change minimum altitude one by one. But In this case, there are 8X4 parachutes are attached radially. Are there any short cut key for change setting of radially attached parts? I can do that simply in VAB, but not in flying. it's so weird. Do i missing some short cut key?

I believe the answer is "you can't", at least not in the stock game.

Symmetry behavior is highly idiosyncratic:  it depends on the specific behavior and part that you're using.  For example, some things respect symmetry in the editor (i.e. changing one changes 'em all) but not in flight, like the parachute settings.  Other things stay symmetric in flight too, like fuel flow priorities for tanks.

I don't believe there's any setting for this; it's baked into the game.  (Would love to be proven wrong, if anyone out there knows better, because the parachutes-don't-stay-symmetrical thing you're complaining about has bugged me for years, too.)

That said... this could be a nice idea for a mod.  :)  I bet it wouldn't be too hard for a mod to "fix" this behavior.  If you don't find an answer here, it may be worth posting a question over in the "Add-on Discussions" sub-forum, basically "Hey, does anyone know whether there's a mod that fixes this problem?"

It's not quite the same thing, but you could always set your opening altitude for pretty high, but wait to activate them via staging until you know where you're going to land.  I.e., stage them earlier if you're coming down over mountains and later if coming down over water.

You could also do a similar thing by creating an action group to disarm / arm them.
