Asteroid Mining 1.4.3 Bugged for old Asteroids or in General?

I love astroid mining and have captured several Class Es and brought them back to Kerbal and Mun over the course of my game.  I'll fill up fuel tankers and ship the fuel to other stations.

I have not had to re-visit them in quite awhile though because I've had a surplus of fuel, but it's now starting to get a bit low and I'd like to top off my other stations again.

The problem is now my mining drills do not seem to be working.  Everything is as before, but I'm wondering if 1.4.x has maybe introduced a bug making old astroids now unminable?

Has anyone else noticed this?  Is there a fix?

I recall there was a surface collider bug affecting asteroids in 1.4.2, possibly 1.4.1 as well -- the symptom was that a Klaw docked vessel would seem to be submerged in the surface of the rock instead of hanging on by the Klaw.

This might also prevent a drill from working, if it seems to be on the surface, because it might not reach the actual collision surface.

Further investigations . . . 

Here is the info on one of my asteroids and it shows 794.55 tons of resources remaining (84.4%).

Yet, when I look in the config file I see this.

I'm seeing a "0" in the adundance field.  I wonder if that's maybe the bug?

I haven't able to mine asteroids in 1.4.3. I put it down to a mod messing with things but the situation continued even after I removed the mod. I thought it might be an "old asteroids" problem, but I didn't investigate the problem further and just gave up on asteroid mining.

I'm 99.99% certain it's bugged.  The Dev team really needs to look into it.  Asteroid re-direct/mining is such a huge final test of all the skills learned in the stock game.  It's incredibly disappointing when the player can't reap the rewards of their effort.
