Science in Kerbin

Recommended Posts

Can anyone here help me with how to squeeze every bit of science from Kerbin and it's moons. I seems to get stuck in 3rd level research and I don't know what else can I do to get more science point. What activity can I do to generate science? Do every different biome generate fresh set of science?

Yes u get for every biome new sience. And u get different since from high over a body to low over it. With the gravmax u get high and low sience for each biome u fly over and in low orbit every Eva Report over an different biome gets u sience.

Yes, basically every biome generates a fresh set of science. You can see this if you look in the science archives -- every experiment you've done in every biome and situation is listed separately, with the amount of science you collected for it already.

Which version of KSP are you playing? There are more/different biomes in some newer versions.

First, there are the minibiomes. Have you driven a rover/airplane around KSC and done experiments? Have you tried touching every building? Have you flown to the other airstrips/launchpads and tried doing experiments there?

Then there are the natural biomes. Each land biome (currently) extends into the water (although mountains and highlands are mighty hard to find). And you can get one complete set of science while you are on land, and another complete set while you are "splashed". The water biome also extends onto the solidified water, if you can think of somewhere to land on solidified water (because there are small pools of meltwater around).

Then there is flying. Thermometers, Variometers, and Crew Reports can be done while flying low over every natural biome. Variometers can also be used while flying high (over 18km) over each natural biome.

In low space, you can do EVA reports, and Gravity reports over each natural biome. High in space (over 250km) you can still do gravity reports over each biome.

Beyond that, many experiments can be done once while flying low, flying high, in space low, and in space high.

At normal difficulty, all combined it's enough to generate well over 800 science points. Which is enough to take you very deep into the tech tree. And exploring Kerbin is fun! It's the most detailed world in KSP.

Additionally, it's trivially easy to send a one-way probe on a flyby of the Mun and then out of Kerbin's SOI into orbit around the Sun. That'll get you another good handful of science points.

If you dont mind using mods, one called "[X] Science!" Shows the complete list of experiments available in your current biome, doable with your current ship, in every biome, and also experiments not yet unlocked. It also shows how much sciende will they yield, or have already yield.

There are 4 new microbiomes,

dessert launchpad and runway and woomerang launchpad/ island runway.

Just take a pod and slap every instrument you have on it.

Launch at the new sites

Profit.

Start a new career, visit all launchsites, resarch till you have science jr., repeat launching whenever you have a new instrument.

I was able to do a Munlanding with my 3rd real launch.

(First launch was only to get rid of the contract "launch first vessel" - 2nd one completes "escape the atmosphere" and "Orbit Kerbin")

You can absolutely get a fair bit of science by trundling around the various KSC microbiomes... but you also don't actually need to.  It's perfectly possible to do a reasonable career progression without it.

One bit of strategy I'd suggest:  whenever you're unlocking tech tree nodes, always go for the node with a new science instrument first.  Once you've got that, you're golden.

A couple of basic launches, grabbing all the science you can while you're at it, will get you enough science to get to orbit.  Upgrade the astronaut complex, then you can grab lots of EVA measurements from low Kerbin orbit.  That should be enough to get you to the Mun... and once you get there, the science comes pouring in, because science measurements on Mun and Minmus are much more valuable than measurements on or around Kerbin itself.

A bit of biome hopping on Mun and Minmus can easily max out the tech tree, even if you never leave Kerbin's SoI.  I tend not to go for max-tech-tree-on-just-Mun-and-Minmus myself, mainly because I've visited them so often that I've kinda gotten bored with it.  So my usual career progression in my own games looks something like this:  A few basic launches to get the tech needed to get to orbit.  Do an orbital mission to pick up tech for Mun mission.  Do a few missions to Mun / Minmus until the middle regions of the tech tree are unlocked... then start sending probes to other planets and round out the tech tree there.

That's just one approach, though-- the beauty of KSP is that there are many different ways to play it and you can pick the one that works for you.  :)

Launch a Science Lab/Space station into Kerbin's orbit, take all the science you can to it. Bring science from Mun and Minmus to it. Profit.

If it gets full, you may want to send one Science Lab/Space station to orbit the Mun and one to Minmus. Again, taking all the science you can to each of them.
