Launches are such a drag! (reach orbit with parachute open)

Recommended Posts

Try to leave the Kerbal atmosphere (70.000m), with one or more parachutes active.

The have more parachutes open to earn more points.

Also being able to establish an orbit after reaching space gets extra points!

Also trigger the parachute in the second stage you fire. (right after the rocket has cleared the launchpad)

larger parachutes are bonus points! :D

does anyone have the drag amounts of each parachute?

Strangely enough in the menu they both are listed to have a 500 drag value, though i dont think this is completely correct?

(unless its modified with the wheight of the parachute pod, in that case a big parachutes equals 3 small ones)

then a craft with 1 big one and 2 small ones would equal 2500 drag (500+500+1500)

1 Small parachute into orbit. Actually, to the moon and back, but anyways.

I think I put too many parachutes on my splashdown stage though. Descending at 2m/s from 600m is a bit slow.

The trick I found to this was to throttle back in the lower atmosphere. If I exceeded about 80m/s in thick atmosphere, as happened with full throttle, my parachute would tear off and the craft would break apart, leaving the command pod alive.
