In-flight docking clamp alignment snap

Recommended Posts

This used to get requested all the time back in the day but damn, it be nice if the clamp-o-trons magnetically snapped to useful radial increments. Having to eyeball radial base components let alone orbitally attached engine nacelles without default angle-snap is painful. I can't conceive a reason for wanting to attach docking ports at angles more precise than 5 degrees.

I'll guarantee you that someone somewhere has reason.

Tis. Stock solution: multiple docking ports that will dock at the same time and force the alignment you seek.

Hidden stock solution: the stock KSP code actually already contains the means to make docking ports snap to certain angles... it's just not enabled in the default part configs. Check out the community patches thread.

You're right, Im sure that's true. I guess I should have said in the vastest majority of cases players would prefer angle-snapping ports to loosey goosey ones, certainly enough to warrant it being default behavior. In fact almost always players want them to snap to to 90 degree increments, but 5 should be plenty fine grain I think.

Thanks for the tip on the config patch! I'll check that out.
