Speed Up 1.5.1 on a Mac?

Recommended Posts

Is there a way to speed up 1.5.1 on a Mac running the most up-to-date OS? It was running really sweet for about a week after I updated, switching between craft and buildings in seconds rather than minutes. But now it's slowed it down again. I am running 4 mods, but I'm told they don't usually affect the game's speed. This might need to be moved to tech support, but I'm about to leave this computer for the day.

Did the slowdown occur when you added the 4 mods? If so, I'd start there.

The first question to ask when something is working right and then it suddenly doesn't is "what changed?" the Mod question is one thing, but what else changed? did you load an old save game? do any updates to your computer? run out of HD space?

It's hard to know without know everything, but think back to what changed.

No it worked fine with all the mods. It was a gradual slowdown over about a week. It is a pretty old saved game, dating back to around 1.3, but I don't want to start over. And I have about half a terabyte of HD space vacant.

It would be worth trying @bewing's advice just to validate the theory. If the problem goes away with a new save then at least you know it's not your install, mods or mac.

Here's what I'd do...

  1. start a new sandbox save and see if it's running fast again
  2. Use F12 to place a bunch of ships into orbits around Kerbin and the moons - roughly the number that are in your old save. - just use the stock craft that come in the sandbox save. no need to waste time designing your own, you just want other stuff floating around out there.
  3. See if the game slows down like your old save did
