Be aware that the "revert" options are only available if you launch your ship and have an uninterrupted play session with that ship since then.

In other words:  If you launch a ship, and fly it, and you're continuously flying that ship all the way up until the time that you decide to revert... then yes, you can revert.

But if you ever "interrupt" the flight session-- e.g. if you switch back to KSC for a bit, or if you switch to another ship, or if you do a save-and-reload of the game-- then it's no longer revertable at that point.

So, it's wisest not to depend on "revert" as a thing, at least not for extended missions.  (Myself, I'm in the habit of always doing a quicksave, named "launch", every time I launch a ship.  That way, no matter when I get into trouble with it, I have the option of loading that save to go right back to the launch pad, and then I can recover the ship & crew with no penalties.)

So... what are the circumstances of the mission you're trying to revert?  Did you switch away to another ship, or to KSC, at some point?  Load a save?

Additional, there is also a difficulty setting which need to allow flight reverts in the first place. It is disabled by default if choose to play on the stock 'hard' settings or maybe you disabled the option accidentally. You can change this setting during a running game by entering the settings menu -> Difficulty Options.

If you want to keep the revert option even after several events and you are fine with using mods, I would recommend QuickRevert, which is part of the QuickMods collection:

According to the readme:

Quote

You will keep the revert function if: you go to the space center or on another vessel, you make a quickload, your KSP crash, you stop your game, your launched vessel is loaded, your launched vessel is in prelaunch.

but you will loose the revert option after launching a new vessel (or after leaving the atmosphere if you want it. That's an option of the mod)
