Steam Crowd vs non Steam crowd, or: We have different PoV of what is good?

You must have figured out something about Workshop that I missed. You're saying you subscribe in Workshop and don't worry about it, but mods don't update automatically, so whenever the game updates many mods break. Workshop, at least as I've figured it out, doesn't help me to sort that out.

Workshop doesn't seem to even let me search for mods that are compatible with the game version I'm playing. I search in Workshop and it happily displays mods that haven't been updated for 2 years as "most relevant".

How have you configured workshop to make it so simple? I must be missing something.

Nope. No it doesn't.

What it comes down to is how well each game handles mods. The Paradox games, for instance, all have game version built into their mod loader and mod config files. Old mod that doesn't explicitly say it works? Disabled.

It would be _very very nice_ if KSP had some built-in mod compatibility version checking. Like a stock AVC. It'd be even nicer if Steam Workshop had a standard framework for supporting mod versioning, but I can also understand why they don't.

I think because they would rather the community just suck it up and treat DLC as stock, mods be damned. If I am TakeTwo, challenge such as the "Regional Airline" would not be allowed on this forum because it ban DLC. Well, good thing I am not Take Two.

BUT...Steam Workshop isn't smart enough to check it. I play Paradox games and have grown to hate Workshop - I was looking for HOI4 mods that would run on current HOI4 and Steam happily suggested I try all of these old broken mods. Sure, it's fine that the HOI4 loader catches them after the fact, but it makes discovering compatible mods very difficult

Steam Workshop is a broken experience when it comes to version tracking. Adding KSP mods to it wouldn't make KSP players' lives any easier. At least CKAN is smart enough to only show mods approved to work with your installed game version.

Absolutely. I really think Workshop was developed for (and works better with) "dead" games that never get updates. It's possible the team that built it never considered that so many games would be in on-going development.  (Which is itself a new-ish trend.)

Hopefully Valve's promised profile/store rework will address some of these issues.

I’m sure they will be addressed in regular valve time.  Just in time for your grandchildren to enjoy it.

The difference is obvious: the steam community for KSP is full of jerks who are still angry about “rEDshElL” and need to be put in their place, as well  a couple of pungent curses spat at them too. The online, non-steam community (particularly this forum) is a blessed, awesome place that any of the aforementioned haters of a thing that never harmed anyone ever would be immediately blasted by the moderators on their first post and shunned by the general members. In other words, steam is a great place to get games, but the worst place possible, ever, in the whole world, to talk about them.
