Problem with some missions

Recommended Posts

So im having some problems with some missions

for example the parashoot missions where i have to deploy it at certain altitude and speed.
the altitude is ok, no problem there i can deploy it
but it also requires the speed of 20 to 50ms or so, which im not sure how it is possible considering im falling from orbit at 300ms

other missions, like to do research at a specific location
how?
is it possible this mission is for a plane and not for a rocket? how do i even know the difference?

and while at it, is there a way to roll-back a building upgrade?

Parachute missions are simple enough, just use a suborbital rocket and place your apoapsis within the upper edge of the altitude band (for that one).  Go straight up, return navball to surface mode if it switches.

The research above missions can be done by plane or rocket, your choice ... so can the research below missions, but a rocket's going to end up landing.

No idea about the building rollbacks, but why would you?  Try destroying and rebuilding it, maybe?

Welcome to the forum!  @Kryxal has some good answers, so I'll only elaborate on a couple of points:

One way to accomplish this is to fire the engine so that it only goes up to that altitude.  If you coast such that you begin to fall back down, then you'll have no problem getting the correct speed.  Unless the mission specifically requires you to orbit, then you don't need to orbit.  In fact, if it doesn't say suborbital, then you don't even need to reach space.

You may find it easier for a plane instead of a rocket, but there is no difference otherwise.  KSP only cares that you reach the location and complete the mission.  The vessel type matters not at all:  if you can do it, you can even build a rover and drive there.  That will make it tricky to get low flying science (and even trickier to get high flying science), but it is quite within the realm of possibility.

I do not believe it possible without mods.  Perhaps there is an editable save-file setting--it seems odd to me that there wouldn't be one--but if so, I don't know what it is.

Yes, but you do not get your money back.

You have to demolish the building first. There are two ways to do that. You can slam something into the building, or you can hold Right Ctrl + Right Click (and then choose "Demolish).

Once the building is demolished, use Right Ctrl + Right Click again on the building. You will get the opportunity to rebuild the building -- but you have a choice to rebuild it one level lower than it was.

Yes, the "survey" missions to do research at a specific location are much easier to do with an airplane.

And as the others have said -- for the parachute missions, take almost all the fuel out of the rocket so that it only goes up a little ways. If it still goes up a little too high, then you can also restrict the thrust some. This will make the rocket not fly quite so high as before.
