F5 quicksave not working correctly

Recommended Posts

When I used to hit F5 it would just save to 'quicksave' but now it is bringing up the menu to name the save, like I hit alt-F5.  This used to work.  Quickload (F9) is having the same issue.  Also you used to have to hold F9 to get a quickload.  I checked the help on controls in encyclopedia and it says it should work like I remember.  If they changed it they would likely fix the help too.

Was this broken in 1.7 or is it a problem on my end.  I have no mods and never have.  I do have "making History' DLC.  I verified the files.  I checked several forums and have not seen a single comment so it could be just me.  I didn't see it in any know issues.

There have been no changes; F5 and F9 still work for me as you expect them to.

Possibly, your computer is getting confused about whether the Alt key is held down, and pressing it once might solve the confusion.
I have had this happen rather often on Windows, maybe because I use keyboard shortcuts a lot, and stumble into corner cases that the keyboard driver never debugged.

Thanks for responses.  I did not expect to find it working for anyone because I tried it on 2 different computers with the same result.  Then I asked a friend to try it and he had to reinstall KSP first and then test.  He got the same result as me, so I figured it was the game.  Now I might have a problem again.  I'm going to try pressing and releasing alt, then trying it.

OK, did some more testing and think it's 'mostly' solved. Pressing and releasing alt didn't do anything.  Since I was testing on a new game I tried loading an old one where it worked, it still failed.  Then I loaded a quick save from that game and it worked then!  Further experiments seemed to prove that it always worked if you were in a rocket.  If you were just at the space station it worked incorrectly.  Maybe it was always like this?  I can't remember since I took 6 months off playing and came back to try out the 1.6 and 1.7 changes.

But another weird thing happened during the test.  I made a simple rocket (command pod, mk-16, flea).  I know this rocket goes to 12000m, BUT, it went to 24000!  And going straight up 24000m is death because there is no safe time to deploy the chute.  I need to figure out how this happened because I am certain it's not right.

Oh yeah, F5 and F9 do bring up the choice of named saves, when used in the Space Center view.  It does so in version 1.3.1, so maybe always like this.  I can see how it makes sense, as you have a fresh persistent save at that time.

The flea did change :

Thanks for the response and the link.  I was looking for some evidence that this was universal and never found that link with the searches I tried.

I wish this didn't change because before the Flea pretty safe for beginners without them doing more advanced stuff like lowering the fuel.  So you could just slam together the most basic rocket and it was easy to survive.  Then a revelation when you try a hammer you learn that falling from a great height is a very bad thing.

I think there is more to it because even the training mission of 15,000 is higher than before.  Before it went to 12,000ish.  I watched an old video with 2 goo pods added, and it went to 10,000 which is what I remember with added weight and drag of the pods.

I have notes (yes I made notes:) of a test where I used a hammer upper stage and a flea lower stage and it went to 113,000.  But now, just a hammer alone takes it to 153,000.  Maybe it was wrong before and they fixed it, but it might be wrong now.  I was planning to introduce a friend to the game and wanted it right starting out.

Thanks again.
