Question about launching spacecraft / spaceplanes / aircraft

Why is it than when i want to start my engines, particularly on my aircraft / spaceplanes i have to press the release stage button before my engines will spool up? it defeats the purpose of having a low orbit probe releasing spaceplane

Hi kodemunkey, you wouldn't want your engines active before you were ready to take off would you? Think of it as turning the ignition

Well, yeah i would in a way. Because otherwise the entire reason for my aircraft even being an aicraft makes the runway into an adventure playground. *

Not 100% i know what your problem is, but off hand it seems like it can be solved by adjusting your staging.

If i press the launch button to activate my engines, the payload, which is a seperate stage falls off my aircraft, and if i move the payload to the same stage as the main aircraft, it doesn't release.

Then add another stage between the two.

It happens on all my aircraft, no matter how i build them.

Kodemunkey, as long as the decoupler for the probe is in it's own stage, you will be able to release it whenever you want, just drag that particular stage to the top of the stage list in the VAB so it is out of the way.

Then later when you want to release your probe, drag that stage down to the bottom of the stage list in the flight scene, you will then be able to release the probe with the next press of the space bar.
