What are the backstories of the KSC staff and Kerbalnoughts?

I was playing Kerbal Space Program and flying a plane with Jeb and wondered where he came from. Now I am wondering if there’s a backstory on the KSC staff. Any ideas?

No formal backstory, just lots and lots of head-canons. But, a question asked a few times previously.

Yes, there is definitely a backstory for every member of you kerbal team!

However, the stories are different for every player.

There's no canon backstory, but there was an abandoned story concept where Kerbals originated as creations of a superior ancient race. The nondiegetic backstory is that their form was based on that of figurines launched on top of real rockets made by the game's creator.

While the following isn't the headcanon I actually go with in my gameplay – it is kinda fun to think of them as a species of Orkoid (as from Warhammer 40k), except they're obsessed with space instead of fighting. So the chequered rockets go faster, and their ability to make the wackiest designs spaceworthy or fudge some extra delta-V out of a craft due to "piloting skills" is a Waagh-like psychic power.
