Adding downloaded craft to a career?

I figured out how to download someone elses craft and fly it in sandbox mode.  Awesome! Now I would like to cheat just a bit and add, let's say a Soviet R7 to a career game.  I know how to add the craft itself to the ships/vab of a saved game but when I try to open that rocket in the VAB it warns me that there are missing parts.  I assume that's because I haven't 'earned' those parts on the science tree. 

Is there any way to cheat ahead and work around that limitation in a career?

Hit alt-F12 to bring up the console. Click on the Cheats tab. There you can give yourself as many science points as you want with which you can buy the tech you need.
