Rescue mission show crew in mk1 crew cabin, can I still rescue without grabbing unit?

Well I'm quite far off from the grabbing unit, yet mission control gave me a rescue mission. Upon arriving there I notice that the kerbal is in a mk1 crew cabin, which is a cabin without doors.

 

So I cannot transfer the crew out of it? Or can I? Can I possibly do this using debug menu? - Or using hyperedit?

You should be able to EVA the kerbal in the crew cabin and have them float across to the recovery vessel. The game shouldn't give you a mission that you can't complete at a technical level.

The crew hatch is on one of the ends. Usually this is not helpful (since these are often covered by other parts), but if the only object is the cabin, it works out perfectly!

You have to click on one of the doors on the end of the cabin. You will activate a menu that allows you to EVA anybody inside the crew cabin.

Be sure to be close (200 meters, i think?) or otherwise you can't control the rescued-to-be kerbal. Afterwards, switch to the mk1 capsule, EVA the poor fella and you are half done!
