The trouble with this (as a thread) is that we can only tangentially touch on politics in the forum (per rules). That said, in this case it's interesting in that while different sides control the different houses of Congress, the versions are pretty bipartisan, or indeed opposite of what you might expect in some cases. Historically the anti-commercial guy has been Shelby and his allies. In the house we have people with the other letter after their names pushing not for the Obama-era commercial model, but for... Boeing (which mirrors AK's goals).

I suppose the thing to do is not not talk about politics, but to "follow the money."

i dont think these funding bills tell us anything of value. most of the interesting stuff requires long term planning that exceeds the length of any one funding bill, or administration. things are constantly being defunded to get votes around election time. sometimes i think they set up pork early on so they can cancel it later on to make them look like a hero to the tax payer, a process that likely wastes more money than it saves.
