Successfully take off and land a space plane... Without Wings!

Recommended Posts

I was messing around with space planes and jet engines when I found out that I could actually take off without any wings at all. Unfortunately I wasn't able to land, but maybe you can do better. Rules are simple. It must take off horizontally, land horizontally and have no wings. Bonus points for landing on the runway!

The theory here is called the "flying brick theory". It states that even a brick would fly if you put big enough engines on it. A very great example and America's testament to this theory is the F-104 Starfighter, heck, the designers barely bothered to put wings on that brick.

I'd suggest banning vertical thrust (engines must be mounted parallel to the runway) otherwise this is a simple VTOL challenge with a little engine tacked on to get it rolling before takeoff and robust enough wheels that it doesn't need to come to a complete stop to land.
