Are Batteries Interchangeable?

Hi, I'm, building an outpost on the Mun and I'm having to use 1K batteries for the time being. When I unlock the bigger battery, will I be able to change transfer them on the moon, or is it a whole design thing?

If you have a docking port and good alignment skills or use a klaw you can dock new batteries to your base.  Replacing your current batteries would require a mod like KIS and KAS.  Better batteries are larger anyway, so upgrading the 1K 1.25m batteries would result in 1.875 or 2.5m (depending on your DLC content) inline batteries anyway

The batteries (I think) have a nearly similar EC-to-weight ratio, so technically clustering 1k batteries for the same mass should hypothetically give the same EC. The 4k one allows lower part counts if your computer needs that, though, so you could try to swap it out. Although the 4k batteries are much wider. Also, it would be hard to literally swap them out without either KAS/KIS, relaunching the whole base, or docking shenanigans.

You can't swap one part for another once you've launched, not in the stock game anyway. You can build a new module with a load of bigger and better batteries on it, fly it out to your base and dock/Klaw it to that base, or build a new and bigger base, or possibly use a mod that lets you build parts on-site. The easiest option is probably just building a new power module and attaching that to the existing base, possibly involving brute force and duct tape
